On 24 August 2026, the new temporary Ljubljana Bus Station began operating at its new location along Masarykova cesta. The station has 46 bus platforms, as well as a waiting room and a ticket office with five sales counters. The new station was designed with passengers, improved safety and better integration of different forms of public transport in mind. It is operated by Nomago, a member of the Slovenian Railways Group.
The relocation of Ljubljana Bus Station to its new location was completed before the start of the new school year. The relocation did not result in any changes to timetables on intercity public passenger transport routes, while buses continue to depart from the same platform numbers as at the previous location.
The new layout provides passengers with more space and a clearer separation between traffic and passenger areas, enabling safer boarding and alighting. The new ticket office has five sales counters, and passengers can now also purchase tickets using bank cards.
“The relocation of Ljubljana Bus Station was undoubtedly a very demanding project, as several major construction sites were active in the area at the same time and the deadlines were very tight. Our main objective was to complete the relocation before the start of the school year and give passengers as much time as possible to adjust. At Nomago, together with Slovenian Railways, we designed the temporary bus station with passengers and multimodal mobility in mind.
At the new location, passenger safety has been significantly improved, as traffic and passenger areas are more clearly separated and passengers have more space for safe boarding and alighting,” said Miha Tavčar, Chief Executive Officer of Nomago, which operates Ljubljana Bus Station.
General Director of Slovenian Railways Dušan Mes also highlighted the importance of the bus station for the image of the capital at the start of operations:
“For many people, the bus station is their first point of contact with Ljubljana – the place where they form their first impression of our capital when they step off the bus.
I am pleased that, although this is a temporary bus station, it offers both domestic and international passengers a completely different and, above all, better and more pleasant experience – with more space, better organised infrastructure and more efficient traffic management.”
At the start of operations, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Jernej Vrtovec emphasised that the opening of the temporary bus station represents a long-awaited step in the development of Ljubljana’s central transport hub and that the city centre is gradually moving towards a more modern appearance.
Mayor of the City of Ljubljana Zoran Janković highlighted the cooperation between the state, Slovenian Railways and the City of Ljubljana in the development of the Ljubljana Passenger Centre. He also asked users of the area for patience as extensive construction works continue.
More comfort and services for passengers
The ticket offices at the new location are open from 5:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on weekdays, from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturdays, and from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Sundays and public holidays.
Trees have also been planted in the area of the temporary bus station and will provide additional shade, particularly during the summer months. Toilet facilities are located in the north-western part of the station, while two Nomago Bikes rental stations with a total of 16 electric bicycles have been installed in the eastern part.
In the next phase, the installation of an Urbanomat ticket machine and a Slovenian Railways ticket machine, luggage lockers and a canopy is planned. The canopy will increase the amount of covered space and provide additional protection from the sun and rain. Additional seating areas will also be provided at several locations, while two more Nomago Bikes stations with an additional 14 electric bicycles will be installed in the western part of the station.
