The 39th Regional Assembly Europe (RAE) of the International Union of Railways (UIC), held in Paris on 11 December 2024, appointed Dušan Mes, Director General of Slovenske železnice (SŽ), as a member of the European Management Committee (EMC), the governing body of the European Region. The appointment demonstrates the active role that Slovenske železnice aims to play in international railway organisations and in the development of sustainable and efficient railway systems in Europe.

As one of the key bodies within the UIC, the European Management Committee steers the activities of the European Region – in which Slovenske železnice is an active participant – and plays an important role in shaping the strategies and policies that affect the railways in Europe and elsewhere. The Chairman of the Committee is also the Chairman of the Region. In this mandate, the European Management Committee is chaired by the CEO of FS Italiane Group. By promoting cooperation between members, addressing key challenges and seeking innovative solutions to improve the efficiency and sustainability in rail, the Committee contributes to the development and modernisation of the sector and enhances international collaboration in rail transport.

With his extensive rail-related experience, Dušan Mes can make a valuable contribution to the objectives and performance of the European Management Committee. His time in the Committee can be used to strengthen cooperation with other UIC members and solve various challenges faced by railways in Europe.
